Reading Specialist Certificate

The reading specialist certification program is designed for the certified teaching professional seeking to broaden his or her education experience in the field of reading. The unique opportunity exists to prepare as a literacy coach and to complete a practicum experience as a literacy leader. (24 to 33 credits)

To enroll for reading specialist certification, you are required to be certified to teach, regardless of whether you are currently employed as a teacher. The reading specialist certification program is a graduate-level program approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Cedar Crest also has one of the few programs in the area that provides the option of teaching students or your colleagues, thanks to a literacy coaching option that allows you to “train the trainer.”

While the program prepares you to be a reading specialist, the benefits of this certification do not end there! Credits earned in the reading specialist certification program at Cedar Crest can also be applied to the art of teaching master’s degree.
